    Tip of the Week:

Keeping a blood sugar log (booklet or handheld device) can help with diabetes management.  Track:
    • date & test time,
    • blood sugar reading,
    • food consumed, if testing after a meal - (note larger portions than usual or alcohol consumed), and
    • any notes regarding what could be impacting your blood sugar (ie: feeling sick or just exercised).

A log can help you and your healthcare team understand how well your diabetes is being controlled and make any necessary adjustments.

Featured Article: "What's the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes?"

Type 1 Diabetes is a less common form of diabetes, affecting 5-10% of cases.  Those with Type 1 do not produce insulin and must inject the hormone.  Type 2 Diabetes is much more common, affecting 90-95% of cases.  People with Type 2 do produce insulin but the hormone is not very effective.  Research is looking at lifestyle risk factors leading up to Type 2 diagnosis...

    Exercise Tip:

Include time to stretch before and after exercise.  Stretching before exercise helps to reduce risk for injury and increases range of motion.  Stretching after exercise helps alleviate soreness and stiffness.
