    Q. I've noticed that a lot of "low sodium" items seem high in potassium.  Should this be a concern?

    A. Sometimes potassium chloride is used to replace sodium chloride in salt substitutes.  Potassium can be an issue if you have kidney problems or if you take medications in which you need to restrict the amount of potassium you consume.

    Using herbs or spices is a great way to reduce sodium in your diet without giving up flavor.  The recommened dietary allowance among healthy people for potassium is about 4700 mg.
