Q. What snack bars do you suggest I use? I'm a fly fishing guide and on the river much of the day.
A. Probably the best type of snack bar to purchase is one that contains carbohydrate, fiber along with some fat and protein.
This is because fiber, fat, and protein seem to slow down the absorption of carbohydrate and makes you feel full longer.
There are several that are very high in carbohydrate so you will want to look at the nutrition facts labels to ensure you are getting the right product.
You will probably want to look for something that contains about 20-25 grams carbohydrate along with the other above nutrients.
A few that come to mind are Luna Bar, Special K Protein Bar, or Clif Mojo Bar.
If you are looking for something a little lower in calorie or carbohydrate, you could try to have ONE of the crisp type granola bars
(there are usually 2 in a package and ONE of the bars will contain about 15 grams carbohydrate).
Nature Valley makes these and there is usually a "generic brand" at the grocery store as well.
